Aims

1. To offer students the opportunity to propose and undertake an individual programme of study relevant to a future within professional practice or postgraduate study related to graphic design and/or illustration. 2. To examine contemporary issues and explore potential future developments within the profession. 3. To examine the relationship between portfolio presentation and students' individual ideology and/or future career aspirations. 4. To support independent, self-directed study.

Learning Outcomes

Propose and develop self-directed projects that engage with a distinctive agenda for their future.

Formulate creative and imaginative responses to self-initiated or self-directed projects that acknowledge professional constraints.
3.
Demonstrate a critical and professional application of skills, techniques and working methods relevant to contemporary graphic design and illustration practice.
4.
Design and present a coherent portfolio of finished coursework that reflects a distinctive agenda for their future.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:1. Learning agreement. 2. Students are asked to develop projects that explore a distinctive agenda for their future. This can be based on personal interests and/or career aspirations, and can range from issue-driven artistic approaches to industry focussed set briefs. 3. Project work is discussed, agreed and supported by a supervising tutor. 4. Portfolio design, presentation and self-promotion issues are discussed during portfolio reviews, PDPs and tutorials . 5. Web skills workshops support the production of the online portfolio. 6. Professional practice lectures and supporting activities.
Module Overview:
This module gives the opportunity to undertake set projects relevant to their chosen studio specialism. The module encourages directed experimentation with materials, processes and media. The module will support the transition to more independent and self-directed learning characteristic.
