Aims

1. To develop the student's ability to identify a relevant IR and Politics topic and formulate a research proposal designed to explore aspects of that topic to a high level. 2. To develop the student’s ability to analyse and interpret relevant academic sources in pursuit of a self-defined problem. 3. To develop the student’s ability to gather evidence for a sustained argument and present that argument with clarity and fluency in a written format.

Learning Outcomes

that topic Critically assess the methodological problems inherent in the study of the chosen topic, and design, justify and implement a research methodology appropriate for the topic.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Module will typically include the following: • Student will select research project in discussion with appointed supervisor, and will develop the key research objectives. • Student will have the opportunity to present their initial findings at a dissertation conference.
Module Overview:
The dissertation is an independent research project. Working under the direct supervision of a research-active member of staff, you will produce an extended piece of original independent research which will draw upon the latest developments in your field and demonstrate your in-depth knowledge. It will further enhance key transferable skills developed from the Level 5 Research Paper in International Relations and Politics, such as project management, effective research skills, effective communication, critical analysis and high-level evaluation of data, as well as professional time-management.

It will further enhance key transferable skills developed from the L5 Research Paper in IR and Politics, such as project management, effective research skills, effective communication, critical analysis and high-level evaluation of data as well as professional time-management. You cannot do the same research question as the Research Paper in International Relations and Politics (5101IRP).
