Aims

This option module aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the current practices of Physical Education and school sport within the 14-19 National Curriculum. Students will also develop a critical understanding of examinations and awards within Physical Education for 14–19-year-olds. The module will enable students to plan and deliver within a 14-19 years setting thereby providing a contextual opportunity to develop personal teaching, learning and assessment approaches in Physical Education.

Learning Outcomes

Critically analyse the structure and content of the secondary Physical Education national curriculum and the role of the PE teacher.
2.
Apply and evaluate personal teaching approaches within a secondary Physical Education setting.
3.
Critically evaluate the Physical Education provision and processes for learners within the 14-19 curriculum.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Secondary school Physical Education: The National Curriculum for PE (NCPE) key stage 3 and 4; Examination and Awards within PE. Curriculum design: Higher level planning; Assessment within secondary Physical Education. Differentiation: Catering for abilities; Catering for unseen disabilities. The role of the PE teacher: Learner experiences; Principles of practice; Teaching and learning; Planning delivery; Quality improvements; Organisational policies procedure, legislation and regulation. Secondary school experience within KS4 core Physical Education and KS5 Physical Education examinations and/or awards.
