Aims

This module provides students with a real-life perspective on effecting change in public health. Consolidating theoretical knowledge from level 5, students will now gain additional knowledge of the structure of public health organisations, the challenges and approaches to translating public health evidence into policy and practice and scenario-based learning to examine the many roles of the public health practitioner.

Learning Outcomes

Describe and critically evaluate the structure of public health in England and the organisations involved in making decisions about public health programmes/interventions

Synthesise evidence and present data to inform public health programme and service delivery

Demonstrate knowledge of the political, economic and moral decisions in public health policy, governance and practice

Communicate public health information for a variety of audiences

Module Overview:
This module provides a real-life perspective on effecting change in public health. You will gain additional knowledge of the structure of public health organisations, the challenges and approaches to translating public health evidence into policy and practice, and scenario-based learning to examine the many roles of the public health practitioner.
Additional Information:The assessment will be based on scenario-based group work. Group will be asked to consider the implementation of an intervention from the perspective of different stakeholders, including but not limited to Director of Public Health, commissioning manager, Council member, members of the public, third sector organisation representative. Groups will present their findings, receive feedback and write individual reports to cover a review of the available evidence for the intervention, a strategy to implement the intervention, how to communicate to a variety of audiences the intervention and what information would be required in order to evaluate the intervention.
