Aims

• To identify and critically examine an area of expert practice that is of personal and professional interest. • To provide direction for career development.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify and critically explore the evidence base pertaining to an area of special interest.
2.
Analyse contemporary approaches to nursing practices in an area of special interest.
3.
Identify and operationalise appropriate strategies for the dissemination of innovation and best practice.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Negotiation of an individual learning agreement based on identified specific learning needs related to the work place to develop a portfolio. This process is supported by lectures from appropriate external specialists and facilitated through group discussion. The content will, therefore be developed by individual students in negotiation with a tutor. However, this will relate to relevant policies impacting on professional practice for example Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Revalidation.
Module Overview:
To identify and critically examine an area of expert practice that is of personal and professional interest. To provide direction for career development. This module prepares the student for employment in nursing by providing an opportunity for them to consider their career development and aspirations through development of a portfolio. It encourages students to consider novel, innovative and creative approaches to nursing practice in an area of personal and professional interest. Learning and assessment activities will be driven by the student's specific needs and areas of interest. These will be determined through negotiation between individual students and tutors through discussion.
