Aims

The aim of the module is to enable students to plan, execute and report results of a research project in the area of pharmaceutical and cosmetic science, using a range of appropriate resources and methodology.

Learning Outcomes

Locate and critically evaluate relevant scientific literature
2.
Design a research project using knowledge of the most recent ideas and methods in the relevant field.
3.
Conduct a research project using appropriate methodology and appreciation of relevant safety issues.
4.
Evaluate and coherently present results of a research project, both orally and in writing.

Outline Syllabus:Philosophy of science Health and safety in the laboratory Ethics in scientific research Literature searching, evaluation and referencing Designing a research project using current knowledge of the area Conducting research work safely and efficiently Maintaining records in scientific research Oral communication of scientific results Presenting and publishing results How to write a high quality scientific report

Additional Information:The course will introduce students to research methods which will enable them to plan, execute and report on their final year project, which forms a key component of this module.
