Aims

Music Production 2 builds upon the techniques gained in Level 4 and develops the overall understanding of Record Production as a discipline in preparation for the change of focus of the Level 6 Producer module. The module aims to introduce learners to professional approaches and methods of evaluation work within a wider context. It also aims to develop understanding of professional practices and techniques and the reasoning behind some of the methods employed in the wider music industry environment.

Learning Outcomes

Apply underlying professional concepts and principles to produce, mix and master industry demo quality multi-track recordings
2.
Demonstrate critical understanding of the core functions and features of industry standard desktop recording software
3.
Exercise critical analysis with regard to audio quality and the musical performance of others
4.
Critically evaluate the production process with regard to broader popular culture

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:• Non-linear recording, editing and manipulation of audio and MIDI using industry standard Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software • Current practice and historical perspectives on recording, mixing and production techniques and processes • Sampling and synthesis • The creative role of the producer
