Aims
Building on from the students' previous studies at level 4 the module aims to provide the student with:
An advanced level of practical skill in the movement vocabulary, technique, creative and expressive practices of Commercial Dance
An understanding of the nature of commercial dance practice and its choreographic forms and structures
A thorough, practical engagement, with professional studio practice, class protocol, class etiquette.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Commercial dance is understood within the context of this module to be dance forms and practices seen within popular entertainment and includes (but is not limited by, hip hop, street and other hybrid popular entertainment dance forms)
In this module students will explore and develop advanced technical, creative and expressive skills in dance across commercial dance techniques and practices.
Teaching will include an exploration of:

Centre work, floor work, travelling, sequences and combination
Postural alignment, placement and centring principles
Extension, flexion and suppleness in the body
Control, strength and precision in movement
Use of weight and space in relation to tasks
Musicality- Rhythm, timing, speed and dynamic range
Expression and artistry
Movement and muscle memory
Building on from the students studies at level 4, they will continue to develop their technical and artistic skill and abilities in commercial dance. The emphasis at level 5 is on the enhancement of precision, musicality, performance and theatricality. The students will also develop more advanced skills in partner work. Commercial Dance is a wide genre of dance and in level 5 students will be introduced to a broader range of styles and techniques. As commercial dance has entered the mainstream of theatrical forms students will also look at how it has become integrated with other concert dance forms, particularly Jazz dance.
In the second phase of the module students will explore choreographic practices associated with commercial dance for and will present, as part of the formal assessment of the module a short choreographic project.
