Aims

This module introduces students to different operating systems such as Windows, UNIX and Linux. The topics covered are the tasks of operating systems such as controlling and allocating memory, prioritising system requests, controlling input and output devices, facilitating data networking and managing files, including security and protection

Analyse appropriate techniques and technologies used in distributed and concurrent systems.

Analyse and evaluate the security features of different operating systems

Outline Syllabus:The history and evolution of operating systems Operating Systems Management: memory management, job scheduling, process scheduling, concurrent processing, device management, file management, scripting. Evaluation of different Operating Systems’ environments, including Distributed Operating Systems and Concurrent Operating Systems. Operating Systems administration
