Aims

This module aims to provide the knowledge needed to select a procurement route and tendering method in the awarding of a project to a main contractor. Students will be able to prepare a tender package and understand the procurement methods available. On successful completion of this module students will be able to obtain an estimate for a project using an appropriate procurement method.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Information required to produce a tender including type of client, design drawings, timescale, health and safety plans, resources and the capacity to tender. Tendering constraints such as time, list of tenderers, resource issues, revisions to designs. Tendering documentation including design drawings, tender drawings, specification and other relevant paperwork required. The stages of tender from the decision to tender to the range of selection criteria, including health and safety, presentation, experiences and references. The tendering process and different methods including open and negotiated, the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Selection of tendering method including design and build, size of project and cost. The contractual arrangements and the criteria for the selection on the contract type such as terms and conditions, schedule of rates and legal responsibilities. Issues associated with procurements including government, professional and statutory bodies. Factors affecting procurement such as quality, time and risk. Parameters of projects Common methods of procurement Sustainability issues for procurement
