Aims

The module focuses on the influence of culture, politics and power on the behaviour of individuals and teams within an organisation, and how this affects the behaviour of an organisation as a whole. Successful completion of this module will enable students to make positive contributions in the workplace through an understanding of what makes people and organisations do what they do as well as adjusting own behaviour through reflection.

Outline Syllabus:Cultural theories Organisational psychology Influence of politics, including organisational and personal Power as a property viewpoint Types of power, power controls and sources Motivational theories; extrinsic and intrinsic, content and process theories Impact of motivational theory on management and leadership Behavioural psychology Organisational teams Team dynamics; definitions, theories, communication, conflict resolution Leadership styles to improve productivity and performance
