Aims
The aims of the module are to:
Expand understanding and experience of applying acting techniques by exploring a variety of material in a range of contexts.
Introduce the techniques required to perform on microphone, including experience of dubbing, radio drama, and recording for other contemporary contexts.
Introduce the equipment and skills required to create and operate a home studio and explore self-taping scenarios.
Introduce the terminology, professional working procedures, and good practice required in the production of recorded media.
Learning Outcomes

Select and practice a range of advanced techniques appropriate to acting on screen.

Select and practice a range of techniques for acting on microphone.
3.
Integrate an advanced range of acting techniques to deliver media-based performances that are authentic and connected.

Demonstrate a range of skills required to work safely and effectively as part of a technical crew in a professional setting.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:This Module develops the screen acting skills and technique experienced in Acting Practices 1 and applies them to a variety of contexts.
The module is divided into 2 parts.
Part 1 – Acting for Screen 2
The students will develop their acting technique for screen. They will be able to select appropriate material, rehearse and film scenes. As part of the project, they may also be required to select real world locations to film scenes, organise a shooting schedule, and crew the scenes of other students.
The students will take part in workshops and exercises, in some or all the following:
Equipment required to set up a home studio
Self-taping both on camera and using phones
Green Screen Acting
Acting for Live and recorded transmission on screen in transmedia performances
Presenting Skills
Acting for Gaming, including Motion Capture
Part 2 – Acting for Microphone
The students will develop their voice /microphone technique. They will be able to select appropriate material to record in different situations. They will be given experience of the working of the recording studio and the skills of the sound engineer.
The students will also have workshops and take part in exercises, as appropriate for the group, from the following:
• Equipment required to set up a home recording studio
• Self-recording exercises
• Dubbing for Screen in a variety of languages
• ADR
• Radio Drama
• Recording voice for transmedia performance
Additional Information:This module equips students with advanced techniques and experience in acting on screen and on microphone. It will also give students an understanding and experience of key technical roles in professional surroundings.
Assessment is via performance in filmed scenes and a recorded media exercise.
