Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module comprises two parts:
Creating New Work 2 - Ensemble Devising Project
Building on the solo work in L4 the students will develop devising skills and focus on a particular period and place from which to take inspiration for the Devised Performance Project. The students will explore a range of improvisations for generating scripts, and staging techniques. They will also be introduced to the artistic process of designing, along with the practical skills of staging their pieces. The aim is to enable them to create their own theatrical pieces and to be able to work with companies or directors that uses this type of process.
For the assessment, students will present their work in front of a selected audience, experiencing a crucial moment of the creation process. In fact, the performance itself can be considered part of the process not the end. As part of the project, students will be required to keep a workbook documenting the process. They will present this in a Viva Voce with tutors as part of the assessment.
Self-led Lab
Students will be given studio space to develop their own work, in whatever style and format they choose for presentation in a ‘scratch night’ event at the end of Semester 2. Students will be able to book tutorial time to show their work and receive guidance from tutors, during the process. However, this is space for the students to manage their own process and performance, and staff participation will be minimal. This will not be assessed.
Additional Information:This module equips students with the knowledge, skills and experience to create ensemble work and to investigate social engagement as an instigation and seed for their work. Through the Self Led Lab, the students will be given further space to create more sophisticated work for a scratch night performance at the end of semester 2.
Assessment is via a performance and Viva Voce.
