Aims

1. A clear understanding of the physiological characteristics of the singing voice; 2. An understanding of the key vocal techniques required for safe and sustained singing performance; 3. A clear and deep understanding of the vocal styles appropriate to musical theatre singing 4. A comprehensive knowledge of the composers and repertoire of musical theatre

Learning Outcomes

1.
Apply their understanding of advanced technical singing skills, demonstrating development in vocal strength and range, style, complexity, diction etc; 

2.
Analyse the work of a range of musical theatre composers, and apply their knowledge to the performance of a wide repertoire of musical theatre pieces;
3.
Apply the ability to deliver a developed level of performance, stylistically appropriate to the genre 


Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module will be delivered in group classes, studying the repertoire, style, vocal requirements and techniques pertinent to a range of genres of musical theatre. It will be a more in-depth analysis of composers and vocal styles, and enable students to develop a more comprehensive repertoire, whilst underpinning their vocal studies with an advanced understanding and knowledge of the work of the major composers in musical theatre. It will also offer a more advanced level of technical study, to enable students to better manage the many vocal demands of a career in musical theatre.
Additional Information:The module will allow the student to explore safe vocal practice techniques, a range of musical theatre styles and repertoire. Assessment is a presentation of two contrasting songs.
