Aims

1. Explore and experiment with various techniques for capturing and conveying moods and emotions;
2. Study and critically analyse fashion styles and references;
3. Gain a critical understanding of the different processes, tools and techniques used in the production process;
4. Study different methodologies and techniques employed in creating fashion photographs;
5. Gain a critical understanding of the role of photography in the fashion industry;
6. Discuss contemporary ethical issues related to fashion photography; and
7. Analyse target markets and audiences.

Learning Outcomes

Differentiate tools, techniques and processes that are common to professional fashion photography.

Demonstrate a critical understanding of fashion photography in relation to the fashion industry and its audiences,

Produce fashion photographs with complex elements to a professional standard.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
In a professional studio environment, you will experiment with lighting techniques to gain a critical understanding of how to light multiple materials, textures and surfaces.
You will explore and experiment in creating dramatic effects and how to capture movement in still photography.
You will develop an understanding of how various methods are employed to enhance fashion models and the garments being recorded including, make-up and styling.
Using filters and lighting you will explore how to create moods and how these relate to target audiences.
You will work and shoot with a range of backdrops from studio-based solutions to the natural environment.
Additional Information:
In this module you will explore historical and contemporary fashion photographers and critically analyse their work.
