Aims

1. Develop skills in communicating ideas and concepts visually;
2. Interrogate your ideas by sketching and scamps;
3. Gain a critical understanding of the techniques of composing, editing raster and vector-based images with appropriate computer software;
4. Integrate type with visual imagery;
5. Study various genres of visual communication and gain a critical understanding of their characteristics;
6. Explore the wide range of target audiences which visual communication addresses;
7. Relate and integrate learning from previous modules into the discipline of visual communication;
8. Identify your transferrable skills;
9. Maintain a visual log of your work;
10. Analyse and negotiate the risks and challenges in the production phase; and
11. Develop your proficiency in in the design and development of graphic layouts.

Learning Outcomes

Produce professional design layouts that communicate ideas and concepts.

Demonstrate a proficiency in a range of software applications and techniques as used in visual communication
3.
Produce mock-ups that can be used to critically inform the production process.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
You will work with multiple industry standard digital software applications to develop your understanding and skills in key areas of visual communication, typography, illustration, photography, rendering, infographics, composition and manipulation of imagery.
The module is designed to let you determine the tools that best suit your interests and to become proficient in using them to convey defined messages and narratives.
Industry standard briefs will be used to inform your work and you will gain a critical understanding of a variety of production processes common to visual communications.

In this module you will explore the various visual communication tools, software applications and techniques available to the graphic designer.
