Aims

Surgery, internal medicine and small animal diseases is a discipline that studies the occurrence, development, prognosis, prevention and treatment of animal non-communicable diseases. The aim of this module is to enable students master the basic theory and skills of the diagnosis and treatment of internal medicine diseases, have the ability of clinical cases analysis and writing reports. This module has great significance for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of internal medicine diseases in their future work. Two major parts of surgery will be covered; surgery and veterinary surgery disease. Veterinary surgery is the study of surgery and surgical methods to treat animal diseases or improve the economic ability of the discipline; Veterinary surgery is a discipline that studies the occurrence, development, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of surgical diseases in animals. Small animal diseases will be also covered studying the occurrence and development of various diseases in pets such as dogs and cats.

Learning Outcomes

Understand the aetiology, pathogenesis, pathological changes and clinical symptoms of common internal medicine diseases.

Understand the effects of common poisons such as pesticides, toxic plants and mycotoxins.

Master various examination methods of diagnosis, establish the correct diagnosis and carry on reasonable treatment and prevention for common internal medicine diseases.

Master the basic theories, knowledge and skills of surgery and aseptic technique.
5.
Be familiar with the clinical characteristics, epidemic characteristics and rules, diagnosis points and treatment methods of common viral, bacterial and parasitic infectious diseases in small animals.
6.
Master the manifestations and treatment of common medical, surgical and obstetric diseases in small animals and understand imaging examination techniques such as ultrasound and X-ray.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Internal medicine is a discipline that studies the occurrence, development, prognosis, prevention and treatment of animal non-communicable diseases. The main content of the course is common, multiple and group diseases, with the focus on the mechanism of disease occurrence, clinical symptoms and prevention and treatment methods. This module includes the etiology, pathogenesis, pathological changes, clinical symptoms, prognosis, diagnosis, treatment and prevention involved in diseases of digestive organs, respiratory organs, circulatory system, blood and hematopoietic organs, urinary system, nervous system and toxic diseases. Two surgical parts will be covered: one is theoretical teaching, which mainly teaches the basic theory, basic knowledge and basic operation skills of surgery, training students' strict aseptic technology and basic operation skills; This course introduces etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of common and frequent surgical diseases, and the theoretical knowledge and skills of surgical indications. The second is experimental teaching, which teaches the application of various surgical instruments and aseptic surgery, instructs students to practice the basic skills of various surgical operations in animals, strengthens students' perceptual knowledge of surgery, is familiar with various disinfection methods, and strengthens the training of basic surgical skills. The main teaching content of this course includes the general diagnosis and treatment of diseases of dogs, cats and other small animals. Dog, cat and other pets common viral, bacterial and parasitic infectious diseases, clinical onset characteristics, epidemic characteristics and rules, diagnostic points and treatment methods; Causes, clinical symptoms, diagnostic methods and prevention and treatment techniques of common medical, surgical and obstetric diseases in small animals. The general diagnosis and treatment of diseases of dogs, cats and other small animals is also covered. Dog, cat and other pets common viral, bacterial and parasitic infectious diseases, clinical onset characteristics, epidemic characteristics and rules, diagnostic points and treatment methods; Causes, clinical symptoms, diagnostic methods and prevention and treatment techniques of common medical, surgical and obstetric diseases in small animals.
Additional Information:Through undergraduate study, students majoring in animal medicine are required to master the basic theory and operation skills of surgical surgery, establish the concept of aseptic surgery, and master the preliminary diagnosis and basic treatment techniques of common and frequently-occurring surgical diseases. The main treatment techniques of small animal diseases, and train professional small animal disease diagnosis and treatment physicians will also be covered.
