Aims

1. Study exponents of the art of visual effects;
2. Explore advanced techniques of 3D, CGI and CG Compositing;
3. Develop skills in blending multiple software applications;
4. Learn how 3D special and visual effects are integrated into the design, development and production pipeline of visual experiences;
5. Research, observe and analyse visual elements in order to design and develop appropriate visual effects; 
6. Learn how and when to use mattes, incorporating 2D and 3D visual elements, colour, perspective, space and grading, motion tracking and rotoscoping techniques.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate a critical understanding of the tools, techniques, procedures and presentation skills necessary to design and implement visual effects.

Produce work that demonstrates a critical understanding of the role of 3D special effects in delivering an outcome

Demonstrate an ability to design and produce creative and innovative 3D effects.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
You will explore the origins of the visual and gain a critical understanding of the contemporary visual effects industry and its positioning within the overall digital, photographic and cinematography industry.
Current industry practices will be explored, and you will gain experience in experimenting and working with multiple software applications, technologies and processes as employed to deliver innovative special visual 3D effects.
Additional Information:
This module is aimed at developing your deeper understanding of digital software applications, tools, and techniques used in the production of a digital artefacts in order to deliver visual effects.
