Aims

The aims of the module are to enable the student to: 1. Develop enhanced technical skills and artistry in playing keyboards. 2. Apply the knowledge of the advanced music theory for music creation through the keyboards. 3. Provide the student with enhanced abilities with further exploration of more complex music styles and enhanced understanding of opportunities afforded by digital technology.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The module will be based around five key themes: · Performance: Acquisition of enhanced levels of accuracy in practice e.g. rhythm and pitch; advanced sight reading; reproduction of performance directions in practice, advanced literacy and vocabulary, e.g. dynamics, markings, music language; communication and expression; continuity · Technique: Development of advanced technical abilities required for diverse and more complex compositions: fingering; phrasing; touch; dynamics; use of pedals. · Practice routine: action plan; schedule; theory into practice; reflection and review; feedback; working to targets. · Application of Advanced Music Theory and Listening Skills: Interpretation of more complex chord symbols and patterns; scales, modes and underlying chords; read sheet music; performing with accompaniment; competent elaborations on a given melody/rhythmic pattern; stylistic interpretation e.g. classical, jazz and blues, popular music, contemporary music; creativity; listening skills and recognize melodies and chords by ear for enhanced creation and composition abilities.
Additional Information:The module builds on keyboard skills acquired at level 4 enabling further exploration of more complex music. Assessment is via two keyboard performances.
