Aims

To develop an understanding of the law and practice in relation to the movement of goods with reference to carriage of goods by land, sea, and air.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Discuss critically the law relating to international sales and the carriage of cargo.
2.
Appraise the International Conventions that govern the carriage of goods.
3.
Evaluate between different type of insurances and decide about their application in international transportation.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:1. Logistic Contracts  Fundamental Laws and Regulations (ADSp, AGB, HGB)  Liabilities 2. Insurance  Transfer of Risks  Protection against Loss  Transportation Insurance Coverage  Contract Logistics Insurance
Additional Information:The primary learning activity is supported by small group works and individual tutoring of students. Real-life examples provide opportunities for solution identification applying the rules and theories taught. Small group case studies and discussion support the individual understanding of the correct application of the law. The lecturers have a practical background in carriage goods law, liability claims and transportation insurance. Best case examples and practical recommendation to be applied in the later jobs intensify the usefulness of this module. The overall case study will put the students in the position of decision makers who need to defend their actions to the board. Besides the correct application of the law and regulations, also financial trade-offs and business impacts will be discussed during the viva.
