Module Content
Outline Syllabus:In this module you will examine movement and voice processes, understanding and connecting their integration in the forging of an Independent Methodology. Progressing from The Actor's Technique: Movement, you will continue to build upon technical exercises designed to develop focus, flexibility, strength, stamina and an in-depth personalised kinaesthetic knowledge. You will extend your technical movement vocabularies, address a range of physical demands associated with heightened performance appropriate to genre/style and medium and develop your ability to learn and reproduce a range of complex movement material designed to increase your stamina and co-ordination. You will also consolidate your understanding and practice of a personal physical regime, contributing to your Independent Methodology, and develop your ability to sustain movement choices for the duration of an extended scene or role. The module facilitates the use of physical approaches as both a rehearsal tool and a creative stimulus. Among other devices, you will encounter:
• Spatial awareness and co-ordination
• Complex movement patterns (may include dance)
• Heightened text, music and visual art as stimuli
• Creative development of character
• Connection, impulse and response
• Physical freedom and play
Developing on The Actor's Technique: Voice, classes will prepare you for heightened text and speech, the ability to energise text, word substance and movement, engage with image and the text, as well as argument and emotion, speech structures, challenging textual language and vocal freedom. Additionally, you will encounter:
• Sound and movement
• Key components of physical and vocal warm-ups
• Listening and vocal-analysis skills
• Voice and speech, word and text approaches
• Text and rehearsal processes
• Rehearsal and space
• Meeting an audience
• Repetition and recreation
The amalgamation of movement and voice skills are assessed in two differing parts; your process is an ongoing, continuous assessment, with cross-modular consolidation in movement for Motion Capture and VR, and voice for audio, collaborating with students on other disciplines to realise these projects.
Throughout the module, you will be encouraged to evaluate your work using generic analytical and critical thinking skills, to articulate findings through the employment of movement and voice technique as part of a synthesised approach to acting. In addition to evidenced understanding in continuous assessment, a second assessment allows you to further example and engagement with, including application of, movement and voice processes in a consolidated presentation.
You are expected to continue to employ appropriate and professional codes of practice in all aspects of the module.
