Aims
This module aims to explore advanced acting approaches and the introduction of the 'theatrical', taking developments in dramatic form from contemporary and classical acting techniques, progressing to an examination of twentieth and twenty-first century styles, genres, practitioners and methodologies. You will consider its application in differing contexts, such as studio presentations to an audience. This module further enhances the expansion of an Independent Methodology, providing a breadth of skills and knowledge to progress articulacy of the craft.
Learning Outcomes

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:You will receive classes and workshops examining alternative, advanced acting approaches in order to realise notions of the 'theatrical', audience communion and psycho-physical bravery. You will engage with significant twentieth and twenty-first century practitioner methodologies, styles and genres to expand your methodological skillset, advancing your understanding of naturalism, applying knowledge and skills within new frameworks, ideologies and concepts.
In a directed scene study you will expand on learning by application of theatrical devices, exploration of imagination and space, psycho-physical-processes, methods of address and alternative acting techniques. Your methodological application will be exampled in a scene study that explore advanced principles of acting in challenging styles and genres.
In the second part of the module you will apply and adapt your developing methodology to meet the demands of a studio workshop presentation. In executing a peer performance, you will actively engage with heightened play, provoking response and involvement. Rehearsal process and presentation will encompass advanced styles and modes of performance, such as:
• Epic or Political Theatre
• Poor Theatre
• Theatre of the Oppressed
• Expressionism
Selected material of study will reflect a consideration of diversity and equality concerning gender, age, religion, class, disability and ethnicity.
