Aims

To examine the social and political responses to climate change, through both mitigation and adaptation strategies, via examination of specific topics and case studies at different scales. To highlight how climate change and responses to climate change are associated with (sustainable) development processes and challenges. To provide students with an appreciation of how climate change is subject to different interpretations and solutions. To critically assess communication strategies in relation to climate change.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Climate Change inequalities and justice; International and UK Climate politics; Technological responses to Climate Change; Socio-cultural responses to Climate Change; Climate change vulnerability, adaptation and resilience; Climate denial; Communicating Climate Change.
Module Overview:
This module will examine the social and political responses to climate change, through both mitigation and adaptation strategies, via examination of specific topics and case studies at different scales. To highlight how climate change and responses to climate change are associated with (sustainable) development processes and challenges. It will also provide you with an appreciation of how climate change is subject to different interpretations and solutions.
Additional Information:Framed in the global sustainable development context, the module will examine three main themes. Theme 1 will cover mitigation strategies, from the global to the local, and from technological responses to socio-cultural approaches. Theme 2 will cover adaptation strategies, with a particular focus on decreasing vulnerability and increasing resilience. Theme 3 will cover climate denial and communication.
