The module provides students with an international perspective in relation to education policy and practice. It further encourages students to locate education within globalised social, political and economic frameworks and influences.

Outline Syllabus:This module examines the educational implications for societies in the context of social, political and economic factors. The module introduces students to a number of global issues in education and examines how changes in society are reflected in educational policy, theory and practice. One of the key concepts for the module is globalisation, and students are encouraged to consider the implications for education of living in a ‘globalised’ world. The impact of globalisation on national education systems is considered, as is the relationship between education and international development.

Additional Information:The module provides an international perspective in relation to education policy and practice. It further locates education within globalised social, political and economic frameworks. Students will be given the opportunity to consider a range of views by means of a group presentation with individual components (individual marks will be given for AS1) that scopes out a particular position related to the subject matter of the module. An In-Class Debate further allows students to develop their rhetorical skills in support of this position.
