Aims

The aim of the module is to explore practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of creativity and how it can be supported in the primary phase.

Discuss theories, principles and concepts of creativity

Reflect on the different notions of creativity in the primary phase curriculum

Examine practice in relation to the theories, principles and concepts of creativity

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Students will look at the different ideas, interpretations and applications of creativity in the primary phase which will include but will not be limited to the following:

Defining creativity
The creative process
Building a creative curriculum
Creating an inclusive creative environment
The creative practitioner
Discovery learning
Creativity and Special Educational Needs
Planning for creativity and discovery learning
Working with artists and creative partnerships
Stimulating creativity through artefacts
Learning through the arts: music, art, dance and drama
Learning through discovery
Difficulties and constraints for a pedagogy of creativity
Book-making and storytelling

This module enables you to explore practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding of creativity and how it can be supported in the primary phase. In this module there are opportunities for offsite workshops which support and enrich learning (these opportunities are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed).

For the presentation assignment, each member of the group will receive the same mark; however, in the event of significant absenteeism or unequal contribution from any individual member, an individual mark may be awarded at the discretion of the module leader.
