Aims
To develop students' English subject knowledge and an understanding of how this links to the subject and pedagogical knowledge required for the teaching of primary English in KS2.
To develop students' personal writing skills so they can better support young writers.
To develop students' assessment skills.
Learning Outcomes

Apply appropriate pedagogical knowledge to develop children's English skills in Key Stage 2.

Justify planned teaching approaches to develop children's English skills in Key Stage 2.

Analyse issues and or data related to the effective teaching of Primary English in Key Stage 2.

Apply and illustrate an understanding of English subject knowledge in Key Stage 2.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:How to teach reading in the primary school. The place of phonics in KS2. Reading comprehension and appropriate strategies for the development of this. Children's development in reading and writing. Planning for reading and writing. The writing process and elements of this. Talk for writing. Strategies for the teaching of fiction and non-fiction writing. Beginning to assess children's reading and writing.
