Module Overview:
This module provides you with a knowledge of social policy in the UK and how it relates to professional practice with babies, young children and families. You will learn to analyse social policy and investigate the ways in which this impacts on the lives of young children and their families. You will also scrutinise different professional approaches taken in the application of policy when working with babies, young children and families.
Additional Information:
The acquisition of knowledge of early childhood studies is progressive, and therefore study of the core areas continues and deepens throughout the honours degree. The revised benchmark statements for Early Childhood Studies (QAA, 2022) note the importance of understanding the significance of policy, provision and approaches when working with babies, young children and their families. This option module builds on the core modules Pedagogical Approaches (Part 1) - Working with Babies, Young Children and Families 4203ECS and provides a scaffold for the level 6 core module Exploring approaches: working together to support children and families. It also provides a secure basis for the level 6 option module, Social work within Early Childhood Studies 6205ECS.
