Aims

To understand the academic research process and the differing techniques, strategies and methods used to undertake research in the built environment To develop a research proposal that can be taken forward to the final year research project

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Developing research questions, aims and objectives. Research design and theoretical approaches - exploration of quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods design and particular philosophical approaches. Research strategies - including case study research, survey research, and observational research. Research methods - data collection methods such as questionnaires, interview and secondary data analysis. Ethical principles in research - how to conduct research ethically and responsibly.
Module Overview:
This research methods module enables you to develop and research a proposal that could potentially be used for your final year research project. A supervisor will be nominated at the beginning of the module to work individually with you. You will develop your research skills and the differing techniques, strategies and methods used to undertake research in the built environment.
Additional Information:The research methods module enables students to develop and research proposal that could potentially be used for their final year research project. A supervisor will be nominated at the beginning of the module to work individually with each student. On the Real Estate Degree Apprenticeship programme, the knowledge learning outcomes are K5. On the Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship programme, the knowledge learning outcomes are K5 and K8. On the Construction Management Degree Apprenticeship programme, the knowledge learning outcomes are K5 and K8.
