Aims

To develop an understanding of the personal and professional skills and attributes required for teaching and learning within PE. A continuation of the development of subject knowledge and understanding surrounding occupational socialisation (L4). Using theoretical underpinning, students will be introduced to the importance of the professionalisation phase of occupational socialisation. Students will experience both theoretical and practical learning environments to consider personal and professional progress to date. Through work-based learning and module experiences students will have the opportunity to further develop their PE teaching efficacy.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Professionalisation phase of the PE socialisation framework Identification of personal and professional areas for development: PE teaching efficacy audit, target setting and review, employability skills, SWOT analysis Knowledge and understanding of the PE National Curriculum (Key stages 3 – 4) Planning to teach in the secondary school setting: Lesson planning, long term lesson planning, teaching, and learning approaches, inclusive practice, classroom management, practical subject knowledge and development, health and safety, differentiation. Link to secondary hub: High School visit. WBL expectations prior to placement Peer learning / workshop activities: reflection and discussion of WBL experiences and future career pathways Knowledge and understanding of a school/other environment and professional conduct: school/other community Skills audit review: Personal and professional development; aims, target setting, future aspirations; PE teaching efficacy WBL placement: Primary, secondary or ‘other setting’; 10 –15 Days / 120 Hours Careers team support: Getting into teaching, post graduate study options, other pathway options.
Module Overview:

Using theoretical underpinning, you will be introduced to the importance of the professionalisation phase of occupational socialisation. You will experience both theoretical and practical learning environments to consider personal and professional progress to date. Through work-based learning and module experiences, you will have the opportunity to further develop your PE teaching efficacy.
Additional Information:CIMPSA mapped. Students will normally be required to complete a DBS check prior to undertaking the placement for this module.
