Aims
1. Provide key transferable skills including communication, presentation, practical classroom skills and team working.
2. Provide teaching experience to undergraduates who are considering teaching as a potential career.
3. Provide role models for pupils within schools located in areas of high deprivation.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
This module will take advantage of the experience and knowledge of practicing teachers. They will provide an induction and introduce our students to the nature of teaching at a Secondary and / or A-level History level. The module will also offer guidance and support in respect to effective mentoring skills. Other content will be delivered at LJMU via three four-hour workshops to support students in planning a learning activity. This module will engage with a programme of enrichment opportunities for the schools involved.

The aim of this module is to develop key transferable skills including communication, presentation, practical classroom skills and team working. You will be provided with teaching experience if you are considering teaching as a potential career.
Additional Information:
Numbers on this module are strictly capped at 10 per institution. Alongside selecting this module in OMS, students wishing to follow this course may be asked to make a direct application for consideration to the host institution, especially when numbers exceed the total number of spaces available. That application will take the form of a letter/personal statement outlining their suitability for this role and their commitment to teaching as a profession. Initial shortlisting will be undertaken by the LJMU History team taking account of the following criteria: Record of attendance through Level-4. Academic performance at Level-4: successful applicants will have achieved a minimum overall level mean mark of at least 60%. A clearly articulated appreciation of the nature of teaching and a commitment to this vocation. Where possible, evidence of teaching experience either as a classroom assistant, or equivalent, or teaching observation. All DBS checks will be completed with the host institution. Students will deliver a 20-minute mini-teach as part of their portfolio.
