To examine key images in their socio-political context.
To evaluate research materials.
Learning Outcomes

Analyse images from an historical and theoretical perspective and in ways that take aesthetic, institutional and cultural factors and methodological issues into account.

Evaluate and critique theories and methodologies of representation.
3.
Mount a detailed argument in written format, using a range of textual and contextual evidence in its support.

This module will outline key debates concerning the theories of representation to examine key images in their socio-political context and evaluate research materials.

Additional Information:This module uses a variety of theoretical approaches to explore issues of representation in visual culture. With particular reference to class, race, gender and disability the module assesses notions of personal, social and national identity.
