Aims

To identify the key developmental milestones and domains in middle childhood and to explore the factors that can affect development in this phase. To analyse research relating to child development in the middle years.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Apply the theoretical perspectives of the main developmental milestones of the child's social, emotional, physical, cognitive and moral development in this phase.
2.
Explore and analyse the diversity of children, childhoods and families in Britain today.
3.
Analyse mechanisms by which development may be enhanced or disrupted and evaluate influences on play e.g. gender, culture, media and technology.
4.
Discuss current research and literature relating to this phase of child development.

Module Overview:
This module helps identify the key developmental milestones and domains in middle childhood and to explore the factors that can affect development in this phase. You will analyse research relating to child development in the middle years.
Additional Information:This module continues the study of child development. This module builds from the early years module studied at Level 4 and focusses on the middle years of child development. The module considers research relating to child development in this phase and the factors influencing development.
