Aims

1. To introduce a wide range of material and reference sources for research. 2. To appropriately use diverse research methods and theory relevant to the discipline. 3. To explore critical and contextual awareness beyond disciplinary boundaries. 4. To encourage the convergence of practical and theoretical knowledge. 5. To explore a range of formats for presenting the outcomes of research.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:1. Lectures (visual approaches to research, scenes and networks, critical theory, media, semiotics, new philosophy etc). 2. Workshops (documentary approaches, using archives, gallery and museum visits). 3. Formats (information graphics, documentary short film, visual essays, exhibitions, academic protocols).
Module Overview:
This module offers the opportunity to apply a variety of approaches to undertaking research within the theory and practice of graphic art and design. You will explore a range of research methodologies and presentation formats in the development of a research project.
Additional Information:This module offers students' the opportunity to apply a variety of approaches to undertaking research within the theory and practice of graphic art and design. Students will explore a range of research methodologies and presentation formats in the development of a research project. An emphasis will be placed upon presenting the outcomes of research in visual formats such ad information graphics, documentary short films, visual essays and exhibitions.
