Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge of the structures and powers of different levels of governance in the UK, including national, local/regional/devolved and international, and the relationship between these different levels

Demonstrate knowledge and critical awareness of the main debates and issues in UK
3.
Demonstrate a critical understanding of the main debates, issues and criticisms - including the use of theoretical concepts - over the reporting of UK politics across all major media
4.
Critically evaluate the reporting of politics in case studies, including the use of research methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:The main tiers that affect government in the UK at the local/regional/devolved, national and international levels and how these impact on the politics of the country. Identifying the main types of political reporting in different media and evaluate claims, through the study of data and application of theoretical concepts, that these in turn affect political outcomes. Understand the main criticisms and debates over the reporting of politics in different media, including social media. Research techniques in evaluating data from specific case studies of the reporting of politics in the UK.
Module Overview:
You will develop knowledge and an understanding of the structures and powers of UK national and local/regional government. The aim of the module is to be able to critically evaluate the main issues and debates in the reporting of politics in the UK.
Additional Information:Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the different structures and powers of governance affecting the UK and be able to critically evaluate the reporting of politics in a wide range of media, and the impact this reporting has on the political processes, including elections.
