Aims

To enable students to evidence the behaviours, knowledge and skills for social work practice. To enable students to meet the PCF and SWE requirements for the end of Placement 1.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Recognise the support needs and risk indicators in vulnerable people and taking appropriate action.
2.
Analyse the importance of intervening with individuals, families and communities to promote independence, provide support and prevent harm, neglect and abuse.
3.
Apply law, policy and good practice guidance that maximise the service user’s opportunity to determine and realise their desired outcomes.
4.
Consider the importance of inter-agency and inter-disciplinary safeguarding practice.
5.
Meet the requirements of first placement capabilities as set out in the PCF

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
General • Working successfully on an inter-agency and inter-disciplinary basis • Assessment Tools Working with people Assessment, support, protection and risk Working preventatively as well as protectively The relevance of a ‘rights’ perspective in relation to social work Assessing Capacity, Risk and Choice
Module Overview:
To enable students to evidence the behaviours, knowledge and skills for social work practice. To enable students to meet the PCF and SWE requirements for the end of Placement 1.Students will be enabled to develop and evidence their capabilities, knowledge and skills that are required for working with children and vulnerable adults. Students must complete 70 days of new work based learning to pass this module. The student will produce a portfolio of work which will be marked as a pass or fail. This course is mapped against all the professional standards for both Social Work England and the Degree Apprenticeship. It includes both practice, work based learning and academic reflection and learning. The work based learning will be in a specific agency/service which could be either children or adults thus some of the standards may be focused on either of these groups. Students must complete 70 days of new work based learning to pass this module.
