To build on students' knowledge of the decision making process in criminal justice in England and Wales To theorise decision making processes To explore the role of risk in the decision making process To examine the decision making process via criminal justice case studies

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Thinking about decision making and decision makers Decision making theories and perspectives Contextualising decision making and decision makers The role of 'risk' in decision making Criminal justice case studies in decision making from the reporting and recording of crime through to sentencing and punishment
Module Overview:
This module will build on your knowledge of the decision making process in criminal justice in England and Wales.

Additional Information:This module is designed for students studying criminal justice and students studying either forensic psychology or LLB Law alongside criminal justice. It aims to further develop students understanding of the decision making process in criminal justice in England and Wales. Key players and key decisions will be contextualised in relation to the practitioners frame and field of reference. The pivotal role played by 'risk', risk assessment, risk aversion and risk management will be critically examined. The key players and key decisions will be critically investigated via case studies centring on reporting, recording, sentencing and punishment.
