Aims

To explore, from the perspective of the non-analyst, how organisations make use of statistical data and information in order to inform decision making. Students will also be introduced to basic concepts of contemporary data analysis with the objective of mastering tools to transformation structured data into actionable information. Finally it will  introduce students to the novel approaches that are revolutionizing the way business management is done (Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence etc.).

Learning Outcomes

Use analytical tools and techniques to transform data into actionable insight.

Justify the use of a particular analytic approach and communicate its managerial implications to a non-technical audience.

Use appropriate data visualisation techniques to illustrate and articulate how modern companies are using business intelligence to solve old problems in new ways and pursue new opportunities.

Module Overview:
Students will explore, from the perspective of the non-analyst, how organisations make use of statistical data and information in order to inform decision-making. They will beintroduced to basic concepts of contemporary data analysis using appropriate data visualisation techniques, to illustrate and articulate how modern companies are using business intelligence to solve old problems in new ways. It will introduce students to the novel approaches that are revolutionizing the way business management is done (Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence).


Additional Information:
In addition to acquiring subject knowledge, this module works on building transferable skills, namely by enabling students to transform raw data into useful information that is priceless for managers in decision making in the workplace.
