Learning Outcomes
1.
Work to consistent professional standards of ensemble practice.
2.
Contribute effectively to the performance of complex ensemble material according to personal skills set.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Introductory sessions will focus on the place of the ensemble in musico-dramatic storytelling, including its historical antecedents, and both the specific vocabularies and working practice connected to it. Students will work practically with a range of staff on a range of complex ensemble material covering vocal challenge (Complex harmony and counterpoint and stylistic challenge – gospel, opera, rock etc...) and movement/dance sequences (e.g. tap, theatre-jazz dance, complex integrated musical theatre scene, social dance).
This will lead to a selection of the material explored being presented to an audience by the whole group working as a company. This provides a culmination not only of the module delivery, but of the ensemble awareness and skills in the course to this point and is the last point in the course at which all students in the year must perform together.
