Aims
This module aims to provide students with the relevant skills to identify select and assess the effectiveness of a range of environmental health interventions and enforcement options – focusing on the key Environmental Health areas of housing and public health
Learning Outcomes
1.
Interpret the relevant legislation, including codes of practice, policies and strategies at National and European level., relating to the fitness of housing
2.
Appraise the factors which influence the investigation and enforcement in relation to housing and public health
3.
Identify the key principles associated with housing and public health and articulate their contribution to environmental health
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Consideration and evaluation of:
• urban regeneration agencies and agencies responsible for housing;
• the funding of urban regeneration;
• good and bad practice in area regeneration and housing maintenance;
The maintenance of private sector housing stock and determination of the suitability of houses for occupation.
Housing legislation, statutory instruments and guidelines.
Housing construction
Conducting housing inspections and writing inspection reports giving consideration to the level of risk and identifying the most appropriate course of action to achieve compliance with statutory instruments, codes of practice and government guidance.
Public health issues within Environmental health such as drainage, waste and nuisance

This module aims to provide you with the relevant skills to identify, select and assess the effectiveness of a range of environmental health interventions and enforcement options focusing on the key Environmental Health areas of housing and public health.
Additional Information:This module allows students to explore and assess the range of interventions and enforcement options that are available to EHPs, in particular those relating to housing and public health functions. The module considers the legislation and main issues associated with these key intervention areas and the role of the EHP around them.
Please note it is a professional body requirement that students pass all assessment elements of this module, in order to pass the module.
