Aims
This module aims to give students an understanding of some of the theoretical and practical applications relevant to the management of people and their behaviour in organisations. It looks at work psychology underpinning management theory and introduces students to the role of the manager and leader, the management process and contemporary management practice.
Learning Outcomes

Explain the role of theory in managing people and systems at work within the modern working environment

Summarise key techniques that enable groups and teams to work effectively

Describe the differences and similarities in the roles and practices of leaders and managers in business

Identify how knowledge of individual differences can help to motivate and manage people to deliver organizational performance

Recognise how a better understanding of themselves can help in working with others

Additional Information:This module has been designed to introduce students to the different approaches to management and the functions and roles that managers perform in the work environment. It examines the changing nature of work organizations addressing the concepts of organizational structure, power, authority and culture. Students will be able to apply the concepts discussed to a range of chosen organizations so that comparisons and contrast can be made.
