Aims
The Academic Development module is designed to develop students' academic skills as they start their university studies. The module focuses on developing academic writing skills, including finding sources, critical reading and writing skills and referencing. Other skills that are included are using the library systems, group work, time management, note-taking in lectures, presentation skills and avoiding plagiarism and using Turnitin.
Learning Outcomes

Use academic sources to write and present clear and structured, academic work in a variety of media.

Demonstrate the selection of academic sources and show how to organise, reference and cite work accurately.
3.
Interpret and evaluate relevant information and ideas to a given topic.

Demonstrate transferable skills

Outline Syllabus:-Referencing,
-Selecting sources,
-Presentation skills,
-Essay writing and structure.
-Academic style using appropriate formal language
-Standard and presentation of writing for an HN course
-Accessing and understanding complex academic texts - Finding, evaluating, Comparing, contrasting critical analysis of information
-Oral presentation -To demonstrate strong listening skills -To contribute successfully to group discussions
-Develop metacognitive awareness
-Reflective practice
Additional Information:This module will be Construction focused and every year there will be a new construction-related theme for the students to research. This module will be student-focused embedding transferable skills
