Aims
Developing the taught skills acquired in Essential Production Skills the learner will be allocated two assistant/technician level roles on LIPA’s public season of work or appropriate projects. The purpose of this engagement is to facilitate the practical delivery of the prior lecture / workshop-based content. As well as practise-based skills there is also the opportunity to develop essential collaborative and team working qualities.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Assimilate the production process of backstage department assistant roles through practical engagement.
2.
Identify best working practices, applying relevant H&S codes of practice and creating the required supporting paperwork where required.
3.
Engage in collaborative endeavour, negotiate effectively and sensitively, and contribute to a group process with tact and enthusiasm. Accept collective responsibility for setting goals, meeting deadlines, and fulfilling set briefs.
4.
Evaluate the production process in relation to the chosen backstage role and the relationship with other backstage departments and creatives.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
The module contains no formal lectures but will involve the student participating in a series of tutorials with their supporting assessor. Once allocated to a role on a production, the nature of their participation is to be focused on the learning experience so as to further develop their collaborative and interpersonal skills and inform their choice of specialism at Level 5.

Experiential learning is a core activity, and this is the first production-based introduction to this form of assessment. You will choose two backstage production technician or assistant roles to undertake and apply the skills learnt in semester one.
