Aims

This module is designed to provide students with an understanding of essential finance and accounting terminology and methods to enable them to perform effectively and efficiently within their future workplace. Using practical examples, students will gain confidence to be able to financial modelling skills using Excel.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Recognise the importance of the accounting and functions, thereby allowing students to make a valuable contribution to the workplace within meetings or in a supportive role.
2.
Prepare financial statements within excel including statement of profit or loss and other comprehensive income, statement of financial position, cashflow statement and forecast budgets.
3.
Develop excel financial models to evaluate performance, recommend appropriate action with reference to market and economic condition

Outline Syllabus:• The Legal Forms of Business & Financing Options • Raising Finance – Long-Term & Short-Term Sources of Finance • Basics of Bookkeeping • Preparing Final Accounts/Financial Statements • Evaluating Financial Performance • Forecast Cashflow/Budget • Financial Risk Management • Management Accounting/Budgeting • Controlling Budgets • Cost Structures & Break Even Analysis
