Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
You will undertake a series of integrated technical sessions introducing you to acting, movement and voice practitioner techniques. In this introductory module you will be provided with an overview of fundamental technical principles; you will begin to understand overarching conceptual approaches to acting, their origins and practitioner exponents; in movement, you will begin to recognise the body, identifying notions of space, rhythm and meaning; in voice, you will start to recognise the power of your breath and energy in relation to text, image and sound. You will begin to understand the importance of your personal lived experience in relation to the trinity of acting, movement and voice as interrelated disciplines, as well as recognising textual analysis and cultural/contextual research when applied to modern and contemporary approaches in stage and screen work. You will begin to discover appropriate technical vocabularies applicable to acting principles, and methodological demands when working with others to assimilate technical principles. This learning is tested in a scene presentation to capture this learning, identifying strengths and areas for personal improvement. The trinity of interdisciplinary acting, movement and voice skills is core to the module delivery.
Module Overview:
In this module, you examine different practitioner approaches and develop the necessary skills required of a naturalistic Stanislavski-based approach. You will tackle contemporary works to provide a framework for textual analysis and the application of technique in both stage and screen work, presenting work-in-progress to peers. Movement and voice studies underpin this module, with an introduction to vocal and physical anatomy and physiology culminating in project work to reinforce these fundamentals.
