Aims
This module is designed to introduce a practical understanding of costume and property-making techniques, develop an awareness of the importance and methods of research as part of the design process and initiate an understanding of the production process in relation to costume and the Wardrobe department
Learning Outcomes
1.
Differentiate from a range of basic equipment, materials and processes for Costume Making and Prop Making, acting safely, competently and appropriately
2.
Research independently and effectively to examine historical detail and support the design and making process
3.
Choose an effective way to document the making process through an appropriate use of sketches, notation, work file and self-evaluation.
4.
Appraise the production process in relation to costume and the Wardrobe Department, and their suitability to work in this environment
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Lectures:
Introduction to history of costume Approaching costume design
Costume and the production process.
Workshops:
Introduction to prop making processes including carving and mould making.
Introduction to basic pattern cutting, fabric sourcing and dyeing.
Life drawing
The final stage of the project will involve considerable private study/practice including full involvement in at least one realised production.
