Aims

Introduce key technical and production roles within the live performance of theatre. Develop foundational level skills in, front of house management, box office, stage management, basic lighting and sound programming and cuing. Give the students space and guidance to generate self-led work and guidance in the process. Encourage the students to manage their time effectively and creatively. Explore a range of foundational techniques and improvisations for generating new work, including strategies for research, dramaturgy and staging. Establish foundational skills in stage combat

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module will be divided into the following sections: 

Production Roles – Students will be introduced to key production and technical roles through a short series of lectures, practical workshops, and Q&As with working professionals.

Creating New Work – Students will explore devising through acting, which is a practice of generating a performance from scratch. They will explore a range of improvisations and workshops for generating scripts, and developing characters. They will also be introduced to the artistic process of designing along with the practical skills of staging. The aim is to give the students foundational skills to create their own theatrical pieces and to be able to work with companies or directors that use this type of process

Self-led work – with the skills attained during the module, students will be given space and time to create their own dramatic monologues that will be shared in a 'scratch' performance, along with an open Q& A on the process with Staff and students.

Stage Combat - Students will be introduced to the foundational skills of Stage Combat.
Additional Information:
This module will equip the students with an understanding of the key roles required to stage a theatrical production. It will introduce foundational skills in creation of new work and give students structured time to experiment and start to find their creative voices. It will give students basic skills in stage combat for stage and screen. The Assessment will be via a presentation of selected elements of Stage Combat Technique.
