Aims
The students will be provided with an introduction to the general structure and principles of the English legal system. They will also be able to create a staff handbook based on current and relevant issues related to the hospitality industry.
Learning Outcomes

Discuss important aspects of the English legal system in the hospitality context

Display knowledge of specific aspects of relevant legislation to the hospitality workplace
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Principles of the English legal system: explanation of a classification of law contrasting criminal and civil law; an outline of the history of law identifying the sources of English law; written and unwritten law; review of common law and statute; identification of court structure and explanation of judicial precedent. The legal framework for workplace health and safety within the Leisure and Tourism industry: the tort of negligence; Health and safety legislation Health and Safety at Work Act.
Additional Information:The handbook AS2 will be an E submission and will require demonstration of professional publishing/media skills
