Aims
The aim of the module is to provide the students with a broad and clear understanding of the fundamentals of acoustics and psychoacoustics in the context of audio and music production.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Describe and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts and theories of acoustics and psychoacoustics.
2.
Discuss research in the field of acoustics and psychoacoustics in relation to music production and music theory.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module examines the principles of acoustic energy transmission, the nature of sound and its characteristics. These characteristics are studied in relation to the human perception of sound, music theory and the technology involved in music production. The module also provides the student with an understanding of the human auditory system and the process involved in the perception and interpretation of sound. The learning is supported by practical examples, listening exercises, analysis, empirical evidence and independent research relating to personal interests of the student in the field of music.
Additional Information:The module introduces students to key acoustic techniques and practices. Assessment is via exam.
