Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the construction and theories of narrative, authorship, the essential craft skills of scriptwriting and story writing and the ways in which writing is shaped by social and economic contexts and spatial dynamics.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Consider and employ key strategies for narrative creation, character development and scene/script writing.
2.
Produce a portfolio of appropriately formatted scripts for film, television, web-content or theatrical performance.
3.
Identify and explain the creative decisions made when producing your scripts.
4.
Explain the key features of narrative, genre and authorship (along with related theories) and illustrate their significance with examples.
5.
Discuss the relationship between audience, reception, content and meaning, using examples and appropriate theory to illustrate your points.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The module will cover a brief introduction to theories of content authorship and narrative. It will consider narrative conventions, script layout and vocabularies of visual and audio story telling. It will consider the telling of stories in a digital age.
