Aims
1. Display a good understanding of important political, cultural, and social aspects of Modern European history.
2. Demonstrate a firm grasp of the historiography of the Modern European history and be able to articulate this in written form.
3. Engage in historical debate on a range of topics about myth, memory and identity in Modern European history, critically relating discussion to different national (or otherwise) contexts.

Additional Information:In this module students will explore these questions by examining the different stories which Europeans have told about the past over the previous two centuries. Students will consider the ways in which various political communities have manufactured different versions of the past in order to define their identities and legitimate their goals, as well as how individuals have made use of the past to suit their own ends.
